Can thyroid medication increase blood pressure?!


Question: Hi,
I increased my Thyrolar and now I notice my blood pressure is higher . . can thryroid meds do that. I thought Cortef could increase blood pressure not the thyroid meds.

yes. thyroid hormones will increase your basic metabolic rate. Did you increase it upon the order of your doctor? If not, then go back to what you were at and make an appt with your dr. If you continue to take a higher dose without being monitored, you put yourself at risk for arrythmias, stroke, heart attack........Definately monitor your blood pressure daily until you get to doc. and inform them of what they ahve been running.
