I have a friend and she has double pneumonia. She has been in the hospital for ab!

Question: She is in ICU right now. I dont think the treatment is helping her cause she is on oxygen right now. And they havent been giving her any food either cause they might put her threw surgery. I am assuming the surgery is for cleaning her lungs out. Now keep in mind that she is a diabetic. Her sugar was about 600 when she went in. She was also pregnant when she went in to. I think she lost the baby already.

Has any one ever been threw surgery for cleaning there lungs out?Does it help? What happens if the treatment dont work?I am very scared for her right now. Im not even sure what to do or what to tell her.

I'm sorry about your friend. I know how scary that can be as I have been in her situation.
The oxygen she is taking is helping to bring her oxygen level up.
her sugar is high probably due to infection that she has. Diabetic sugar will go hi when they are trying to fight off infection. Its known as DKA. She can probably explain that to you when she feels better.
They may not be feeding her for several reasons. But cleaning the lungs is not one of them, as there is no such thing.
She may be having such a hard time breathing that they may intubate her. Or put a tube into her lungs that will help her breath. They will use this as a last resort as they don't like to do that unless they absolutely have to. If she is having a hard time breathing, it takes it out of you and you are very tired.
I hope she hasn't lost the baby. I'm sure the Dr's are doing everything they can for both of them
When you go to see her just be supportive. You don't have to say anything just being there is enough to let her know you care. Take her some lip moisturizer. The oxygen makes you lips very dry. Is she allowed hard candy? That helps too.
Hope she gets better soon. She has a great friend in you!

iam so sorry to hear about your friend. i pray that she will be okay and remember god is in control

I have been in there just fir the double pneumonia but i just had i;v;s and lots of fluids, she may be on oxygen as it hurts to breat and we breat real soft and that can make it worse. Now with the diabetic and the pregnancy they have do go real slow and get it all healed,I Hope all is well for you and her and her family and just let her know your there for her; rub her hand put lotion on her or just sit by the bed,she is lucky to have a great friend like you; as when i was almost dead from being so sick and dehydrated had no one at all' and that takes you longer to get well as you have nothing to look forward too.I will pray for your friend tonight...
