Anxiety attack! help plez?!

Question: what do you do when you have an anxiety attack?

Answers: what do you do when you have an anxiety attack?

Some key things that helped me get rid of anxiety, and you might find useful:

1. Think of the source of the anxiety as seperate from yourself, like a Gambling Bug whispering thoughts in your ear - this lets you control it and ignore it.

2. It seems we can switch fear for aggresion, so reducing the Fear Bug's power is important if you want to keep your friends!

3. Go to the places that make you anxious (but shouldn't) and control your breathing - slow and deep (like in yoga). When you exhale say "relax" to yourself. This is a sort of self-hypnosis which reduces the Fear Bug's power over you.

4. Resist retreating from the site, as that will give the Fear Bug more power, and then you'll start fearing other things (lifts, trains, strangers etc).

5. Straight thinking:
a) What is the evidence of what I thought?
b) What is the effect of thinking the way I do?
c) What alternatives are there to what I thought?

If its really bad, try some anti-anxiety pills, like Arrowpax, for a couple of weeks (they make life boring but manageable). Whilst on them, you can act on the above points, to get rid of the Fear Bug once and for all. You might find therapy also worthwhile.

Good luck in kicking that Fear Bug out the door.

try and breath slowly threw your nose and get away from the trigger. If you can't try listening to your favorite music or watch your favorite movie or show. If that doesn't help seek medical help.

I listen to Coldplay...but don't listen to them under normal conditions or else you could go into a coma!

i have suffered from anxiety and its an awful ordeal, my best advice is 2 try and remember its like a passing cloud it comes and goes, whilst having 1 it feels like it will never stop but it does, paper bags help loads 2.

Doing Relaxation exercises can help a lot to relieve anxiety attacks. For this you may please consult your clinical psychologist for practicing these exercises.
