Genital warts are caused by one virus - HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Some strains are a precursor to cancer. There is no cure, but there are treatments that can reduce transmission. Most people who have HPV don't know that they have it.

Herpes lesions are cause by a totally different virus - HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus). Some strains infect mostly the mouth, other infect mostly the genitals. There is no cure, but there are treatments that can reduce transmission. Most people who have HSV don't know that they have it.

These are really two different diseases, with a few similarities between them. For details on both, check out the web site of the American Social Health Assocation (ASHA). They have quite a bit of reliable information on both HPV and HSV.

Good luck.

Genital warts can be burned off- herpes you're stuck with. Also herpes are sores whereas warts are warts usually skin colored bumps. Google it- the pics are nasty.
