Questions about allergy shots?!

Question: Should I get them?

I'm allergic to dust mites and ragweed mainly but I'm also allergic to just about every common allergen. The reaction to dust was so high that it was off the scale. I have "episodes" every 5 weeks with I cougingh, sore throats, and sneezing that last for 2-7 days. It happens more often in allergy season. I almost always nasal cycle. Zyrtec stopped working and only made me tired. I'm on Flonase and Xyzal now. I'm unsure if I should get the shots because I think that every time they inject me with the allergons I will have an "episode".

You would be an excellent candidate! The chance of a reaction are pretty slim. The extracts will be made specifically for you and will start being next to nothing of what you are allergic to. If you receive an injection the first week and don't have a reaction, you will get your next shot which will be the same extract, but you will receive a tiny bit more..so it's a building process. If you have a reaction- say you get a runny nose after you shot- you tell the allergy nurse and they will probably repeat the dose you got the time before or they will take you back to your previous dose. It's all very dependant on how you feel after words so be sure to pay attention to your symptoms. Also, be sure to take an antihistamine every day. This will not effect the efficacy of the shot. If you forget to take your antihistamine, TELL YOUR NURSE because you can have a reaction that day.

Allergy shots are excellent for people with severe allergies like yours. The process take a little while but will be worth it for you to feel better!

Email with questions! I was an allergy nurse for 2 years

i get allergy shots and i think they really help, you should t least try it and see

You may have a localized reaction where they give you the injection or feel a little tired, but that should be it as your nose and eyes aren't exposed, just a small area of skin. I had them for years and they did help. No miracles, but did help.

many alergy , yes all in writin here is alergy

I have had three rounds of shots (4-5 years each) in my lifetime and they saved me. Allergies is worst than being sick, because it never goes away and shots are the only thing that makes your body (or immune system) stronger to fight what you are allergic to. Shots hurt a bit at first and are very inconvenient to get (you must get them on a schedule for them to work), but they will really help you. My son has been on shots now for 4 years and has only 3 months left. His asthma is under control and he never has symptoms anymore. He doesn't take any meds. except for Singulair.
I suggest you give it a try, but think hard if you want to make the commitment. Your quality of life will be so much better!!
