Hydocortisone?!

Question: Hello,

For the last 17 years I have been using regularly over the counter(1%) and pescription(2%) hydrocortisome cream for my rosacea. [sometimes daily]

Also, when I apply the cream, I am really generous with the amount applied!!

Given the extremely long amount of use over time, is there any way it could have affeCted my glands? [thyroid. adrenals?]

Is ther any way this overlong use may be partly responsible for my anxiety/depression/fatique?

Are the any specific tests I can do?
Thanks a lot

Yep. Totally possible.

Go have a read at stopthethyroidmadness.com.

You could have adrenal/thyroid issues, and with your psoriasis, you might want to make sure you don't have Hashi.

When the adrenals don't work, neither do your thyroid hormones. The cortisol is required to convert T4 to T3. T3 is what your body uses. If you feel better, less depressed, less anxious when you use the HC cream, then you probably have adrenal dysfunction.

Anyway, you're on the right mind-think regarding adrenal/thyroid.

Tests would include TSH, FREE T3, FREE T4, morning cortisol, B12, sex hormones, ferritin...it's all at STTM. To check your adrenals, you want to do a 24-hour saliva test, also explained at STTM (addy above).

hey, hit me up on an email. I have slight rosacea and the Navy refuses to believe it's rosacea. They keep giving me acne creams

hey, long term use of corticosteroids topically (skin cream) wont have a systemic affect on you. The most it will do is lead to thinning of the skin where you apply it.

topical cortisone creams usually don't have much in them, a lot of times less than 1 to 4%. i wouldn't think that would have cause any thyroid problems, fatigue, or depression. usually prolonged use of cortisone causes liver damage and adrenal gland problems (addisons or cushings disease, one is from too much and one is from too little, but can't remember which). but as always, call your doctor and ask, thats what you pay him for.
