What are the pros of vaccinating?!

Question: I have to write up an argument weighing up the pros and cons of vaccinating. I have been able to think up lots of cons but only one pro which is that vaccinating gives you immunization to that disease. Please help?

You might approach the pros from a more detailed perspective such as: reduces morbidity(illness)/mortality(death), saves society money not only from decreased medical costs of treating serious illness but also in decreased lost time from work, increases society's productiveness by allowing money and time/effort that would have be spent on treating serious illness to be expended on other issues, lessens the incidence of disease in a society or the world (think smallpox, which we now don't even have to vaccinate against any more), increased peace of mind (fewer things that are out there to kill you).

I might be able to come up with more, but there's an off the cuff answer.

It gives you immunity to that disease provided your body fights off the dead virus, and it will also prevent you from being invaded and passing it on.

Protection against disease is a pretty hefty positive. I think the main focus of your report/debate should be whether any of the potential negatives are stronger than the positive of disease prevention. Does the theoretical increase in risk of autism justify not being vaccinated against potentially deadly diseases like small pox?

I can't think of any other pros for vaccination. But at the same time, I have a hard time imagining any of the cons being more important.
