Child Visiting A Person Who Has Had Radiation Treatment?!

Question: I need all my medical professionals on this one, a relative of mine recently recieved radiation treatment and I was wondering how safe it is for her to visit with a 2 year old? I was under the inpression that it's not very safe b/cuz the baby is still developing and she has radiation running through her body which could cause a problem for the baby. Im not a doctor or nurse and really have been using my own decrection on this but would like to know what is fact vs. fiction for this type of situation.

Well this has happened to me with my cousin. She has thyroid cancer and after having surgery she had to get radiation because she still had cancerous cells inside her body. After she had it the doctor told us that children 18 and below couldn't go visit her.Her mom was with her everyday (obviously)and she got kind of sick for a couple of days. Nothing really happens but i would recommend you not to take her until its safe because that person is giving out radiation and after all it is a baby.

perfectly safe
sincerely,
Doc

It is safe for your child to visit. But, it may not be safe for the relative who is receiving radiation treatment. If the relative is receiving chemo, then her immune system is compromised. Never take a child who has just been immunized, or who has the chicken pox, the flu or any illness near a person who is receiving chemo..they are so suseptible

Good GRIEF. Take your child to visit your relative. This person does NOT have 'radiation running through them' EXCEPT when they are under the 'radiation device' and it is VERY GOOD for people who are getting radiation treatment to 'interact' with young people and babies ... it could be the difference between LIFE and DEATH for them (along with the radiation, that is) because CHILDREN ARE HAPPY and being HAPPY means being HEALTHIER!

They do not have radiation running through them except while they are actually receiving the treatment. It is perfectly safe to visit, unless the visitors are sick. Cancer and cancer treatments often weaken the immune system, and sickness can delay further treatment for the patient.

My mom had to drink some sort of radioactive drink to kill her thyroid and was told not to be around any children. She had to wash all her dishes twice and flush the toilet twice. If she threw up after drinking it she had to call a haz mat team. I wouldn't risk having my child around you relative if I were you.

Children nor adults cannot get sick from a person who has received radiation.
They are not giving out "rays of radiation ".

Their immune system may not be up to seeing children who often carry germs every where they go.

This is a bizarre question.Do you think they are glowing too ?
