You do not "catch" diabetes. Poor diet, no exercise, obesity and heriditary factors all play into whether you will become diabetic or not. By exercising on a regular basis, eating healthy and watching your weight, you can prevent this disease from occurring. But, because there is a hereditary factor, you can do everything right and still become a diabetic. By having your doctor monitor your blood sugars and your hemoglobin A1C annually, you can catch the disease early and make the necessary changes to slow the progression of this disease.

You have a chance of developing it, its not a for sure thing. Watch your weight/ what you eat/ exercise and it will be okay. :)

You could get it or it could skip you, just watch your diet, just to be on the safe side and hope you don't end up hypoglycemic, I know first hand being hypoglycemic in a diabetic home can be hard!

You don't catch diabetes you develop it. If most of your family has developed it as adults it's something that you'll have to be concerned with when you're older. One of the main causes of diabetes is being overweight. Make sure that you're weight stays normal get exercise and make sure that you eat correctly. If you do those things that will reduce your chances of developing it. If you're really concerned talk to your doctor and he/she can help you develop a good life plan to limit your chances of developing it now or later when you're older.

You don't "catch" diabetes. However, there is somewhat of a genetic component to the disease (ie mom, dad, or sibling has it? You are more likely to develop it). Other things that people tend to overlook when assessing their own personal risk--Were you a large baby (did you weigh over 9lbs at birth)? Was your mom diabetic during pregnancy with you?

Other things you can do to minimize your chances of developing diabetes, such as don't smoke, maintain your ideal body weight (obesity will cause your chances of developing diabetes to skyrocket), try to avoid a diet high in simple, refined carbohydrates, and get plenty of exercise.

Diabetes is a "TRAIT" i.e. a genetic marker that may or may not be triggered at some point. Consequently, you have it already but symptoms are not automatic. The fact that it is prevalent in your family simply means it is more likely than not that you will become symptomatic in the future. If you so treatment will depend on the type of diabetes. Type 1 means you will have to inject insulin. Type 2 can usally be controlled by oral medicines, diet or exercise.

dude you cant catch diabetes. its from your blood sugar being too high or too low. its like genetic. you have to be born with it or you drink too much soda or eat too many sweets. get some excercise and it'll get lower.

first of all, IT'S NOT CATCHING.
Secondly, there's really no way to prevent it. It's ususally passed down from someone else in your family-if its type one diabetes. But just because it's passed down and your parents have it or another close relative has it or w/e, doesn't mean you'll get it. You're just more at risk than someone who hasn't had a history of diabetes in their family.
i dont really know about Type Two Diabetes, since i have Type One....so if it is type two it might be different....but type 2 isn't catching either.
