Coughing up yellowish-green mucus! What should I do?!

Question: I was at the Doctors office Thursday for something else and I told him that I had a bad cold for about a week. He listened to my chest and said it sounded fine. Friday I started coughing up this gross yellowish-green mucus. I'm tired, have a headache and wake up all sweating and have to change my clothes in the middle of the night. Do I go to the doctor again now or wait? I feel stupid because he told me nothing was wrong. The cough is a rattling sound in my chest and it's hard to get the mucus out. I've been taking Mucinex and it doesn't seem to help.

see your doctor again, it sounds as though the cold has moved into your chest since you were last seen. If you hear a rattling sound, it is mucus vibrating, and you could have pneumonia. Get plenty of rest, lots of no-caffeinated fluids, and tylenol while you wait to see the MD TOMORROW.

Go back to the doctor, it sounds like the illness has progressed. Green mucus is a sign of infection, sweating may be you running a fever, and the rattling in the chest is mucus that needs to come up. These three things point to some kind of respiratory infection.

Please see the doctor again as soon as possible.

Good luck.

Sounds like a bad cold. Coughing stuff out is good! Get's it OUT! I'd say as long as your still coughing it all out you'll be fine in a few days. And btw, it is probably the musinex that is making you cough, which is good. So keep that in ya too.

when am i gonna learn to stop eating while i'm on this sight.

It sounds like pneumonia to me. I've had it a couple times the last couple of years. go to the hospital. they can prescribe you antibiotics.

the yellowish-green mucus is the result of an infection. you should see your doctor to get antibiotics

i had the exact same thing just last week. i also had the rattling sound in my chest and took mucinex for 3 days then if finally went away. give it a day or so and if not better see the doc again.

its NOT a cold!!! you need an antibiotic, no cold makes you cough up colored mucus, you DEFF. have an infection. get back to the doctors office and tell him your worse than before

Yes...Please go back to the Dr. I started with a sinus infection. The Dr. gave me meds and by the time I took them all, I was rattling and wheezing in my chest too. I went back to the Dr. and was admitted into the hosp. There is a nasty virus going around in many many states that is getting into the broncial tubes and literally closes off the airway. Call tomorrow and get that appt.....better safe than sorry

Best if you go back to the doctor, you never know if it's something worse...... I think you have a fever.
The same thing happened to me like 17 times in my life.
I think it's better if you take a FEVER reduce medicine. I hope you feel better!
=D

call the doctor and tell him that green and yellow is coming up now. they will get you in.
