Can you get strep throat when you don't have your tonsils?!
Question: Strep throat is caused by the bacterium Streptocccus pyogenes, or Group A Streptococcus. It infects the pharynx, or throat, so you can catch it even if you have had your tonsils removed. It should be treated by penicillin or a related antibiotic. If left untreated it can cause serious complications.
There are many viruses that infect the throat and mimic Strep throat.....in fact about 95% of cases of sore throat are caused by viruses and don't require antibiotic treatment.

yes you definitely can, my dad had his tonsils out as a kid and he has strep right now
Yes you can..strep causes pharyngitis. It is not a virus, it is a bacteria.
Also keep in mind that a good number of people who had their tonsils removed as children have had them grow back...mine did.
