I've been forcing myself to throw up. how long will it take for me to feel n!

Question: Recently i've just gotten sick of myself for being really overweight. For a little over a month now I've been throwing up and this past week i've lost ten pounds. The only time I will eat and keep it in is in the morning...an apple or a banana..with my thyroid medicine. I know that doing is bad but so far its the only thing that actually does something. I've been feeling really tired and im always wanting to sleep. Is it because of what im doing? And i get sick alot...coughing and sniffling and sore throat...again is it because of what im doing? help pleaseeeee

It sounds like you ARE feeling the bad things, coughing, snifling, sore throat, tiredness. I really recommend going to a doctor before it gets too far. As someone who has experience with this eating disorder, you are hurting yourself a lot more in the long run. If you really feel that you are overweight, which you probably are not it's just that our society it ridiculous and tried to market stick figures, if you do feel that you could tone up or be healthier then going to the gym or taking a dance class and eating healthy yummy foods will help. If you are worried about your body do it out of LOVE, throwing up is hurting you, and that is a form of self hate. Love yourself as much as you can, this might be the only life you get and we are lucky to be in it. If you don't like something you always have the power to change it, but bullemia is very, very serious. I became extremely ill from making a habit of it and I almost died, twice. You can get cancer from all the damage you are doing to your throat. And if that doesn't scare you, you might want to know that even if you throw up what you eat, you still take in a third of the calories. This is what my nutrionist told me. As for your thyroid medication, perhaps you are not on the right meds? If you have an underactive this could be the cause of being a bit heavier, if you in fact are, but if you have over active then you shouldnt be gaining weight. I would check out all of this with your doctor. This is really serious and if you throw up or don't eat you will eventually screw up your metabolism so you might even gain weight because biologically we are programmed to protect ourselves. Before I got treatment I was not even that thin because I started to gain weight around the hips and tummy, because my body wanted to protect the "child bearing" parts. Eventually it might have gone away but then so would've my period, and actually that did get lighter and shorten but was always varied and messed up and still is, and as much as I hate periods, I'd much rather have never started throwing up and having normal periods than not. Also if it's any consolation, I assume you are a girl, guys, I also assume you are attracted to guys, but even most people that aren't brainwashed by tv, prefer curves. I used to hate that word, curves, I thought it was just an excuse, but really it just means boobs, hips, nice juicy legs. I hang out with a lot of guys because of my job and they are always commenting on how I have a great body and I am not skinny. I'm 140 and only 5'6''. It's all about carrying yourself right and being HEALTHY. But regardless of what others think, you have to like you. And if you really think you should change something, that it will make you happier than that is understandable, but you will not be happy with an eating disorder. Please, once again I urge you to talk to someone about this, doctor, counsler, parent, friend. Someone in the medical field would help most or even a Shaman, someone spiritual. There are books to read about this too all over. I really hope you make the healthiest and happiest decision. No matter how much we weigh or how we look we all have a right to be here in this world, happy and healthy, making a positive impact. Not to sound too corny, sorry if I do, I just am really concerned as I have had a rough few years and would not wish it on anyone.

Take care.

Yes - You're basically killing yourself - of course you're going to get ill.

You may get thin but you won't be able to enjoy it much.

yes, it's because of what you're doing. My friend has similar symptoms.

If you continue, you destroy your teeth, give yourself vitamin deficiencies, lose your hair, grow fur, get fainting/dizzy spells, lose the ability to control your body temperature, and you can also cause serious -internal- damage to things like your heart, digestive system, reproductive system... and I'm sure there's more, that's just what I remember. (no I'm not making any of that up... Google 'eating disorders', 'purging disorder' and 'bulemia' it if you don't believe me.)

I suggest you stop throwing up and go to a doctor or psychiatrist or diet-person :)

EDIT: If you can't manage that, at least talk to -someone- about it. It's really serious and DANGEROUS. You can kill yourself with this! There have got to be better ways to lose weight.

You're probaly feeling ill because you're not getting the nutrition and energy you need. You already know that making yourself throw up is bad so you probably don't want me lecturing you.

I started doing this for the same reason, but it didn't last long, because I found out that it tears the lining of your stomach and rots your teeth. I also found out that a dentist can instantly tell if you're making yourself throw up.

Not getting enough calories will only slow down your metabolism so after a while, you'll have to starve yourself even more to lose weight and your body will end up taking from your muscles and eventually heart... This is what has put me off.

I stopped eating for a while. I became deppressed when ever I ate, but then I realised what would happen in the long run so started making my self go back to normal eating habbits.

I then started eating healthily and taking vitamin tablets and walking for an hour a day. After a couple of weeks, I had lost a few pounds and my legs felt different. You couldn't see it, but it made me realise how easy it is to make a difference. I also felt happier because I was in the sun more.

If you throw up because you over eat, try having more fibre and whole meal. This fills me up allot and stops me from over-eating.

I hope this helps. Please don't carry on like this. The long term and short-term effects are ALOT worse than the weight loss

You clown!! Stop it now!! Your body is like a car, it needs petrol and it needs to be looked after or it breaks down. Does that make sense? If you don't eat properly, your immune system is lowered and you don't have the ability to get on with your life as you feel so weak and just rotten. You will catch every bug and cold that is going as you can't fight it off. Also your dentist will know the minute you open your mouth that you have been puking up as it rots your teeth in a very short space of time. I know because when my husband died last year, I couldn't stop being sick with nerves in my stomach. That lasted about 7-8 weeks and nothing the doctor gave me could stop it. My dentist knew straight away what was going on as the acid in my stomach was rotting the enamel on my teeth. Stop eating junk food and go for a walk, that'll get rid of the excess pounds and stop damaging your body as it's the only one you've got and with your thyroid condition, your meds aren't getting a chance to work as you are puking them down the toilet, clown!!

Yes - and it can kill you.
Blood vessels in your oesophagus can burst, drowning you as you choke to death on your own blood, or lack of potassium and other cricial salts can cause a heart attack.
And there is also the infertility, brittle bones, rotten teeth and bad breath (but these aren't fatal).

it can lead to permanent throat problems, fainting , lower immune system so more likely to get illnesses. Please get help , there are healthier ways to lose weight.

What you are doing to yourself is serious but I know you are aware of that. If you have thyroid problems you will have difficulty losing weight but you can lose it slowly over a period of time because I have a friend that did. She joined Weightwatchers and stays on their diet. She lost a stone over a year, which I know doesn't seem like a lot but at least she is healthy and isn't killing herself. I do hope you get better.
