Weird occasional shakiness/dizziness?!

Question: I have had this problem as long as I can remember. It only hits me once every few months or so, but it is really strange.
I will get really shaky, and start feeling hot. I will feel the urgent need to sit down and feel as if I will faint.
I also have a craving for sweets and water during this time, although it doesn't seem to help.
The feeling goes away after 10 minutes or so, and it has only caused me to actually faint once, but only because there was no where to sit down.
Does anyone know what causes this?
When I was younger I talked to my grandma about it, and she said it was normal, apparently it happens to many members of my family.
I don't really want to go to a doctor about it, because it can go 6 months or more without ever happening, and it is very infrequent. I'm just curious if this could be something bad, or if anyone else ever feels like this. I had a little spell tonight, and it made me wonder...

it's probably hypoglycemia. I have the same thing. It's simply occasional low blood sugar due to an improper diet or lack of protein/sugar.

I got a blood test that involved 5 hours of observation and a nasty orange drink. If you want to avoid that, you don't really need to go to a doctor because there isn't anything they can do about it except tell you to eat better especially since it sounds like you have a pretty mild case. Taking hot showers in the middle of the day (don't ask me why, I have no idea) can make it worse sometimes.

long-term: include lots of protein in your diet which turns to sugar and lasts longer than junk food.

when you start to feel dizzy however, drink a coke and get something to eat that is high in sugar for faster results.

orange juice is best.

really work on healthy eating habits because it can turn into diabetes later in life if you don't take care of it.

Perhaps it is dehydration.

Sounds to me like it might be a low blood sugar problem.

could be diabetes, or nothing serious at all. do not, however, allow a health xconcern to go on, no matter how inbfrequent. This is a very infornmational siite, but can not be replaced y a health care professional, so get over your not wanting to go to the doctors, and get to one. It could be diabetes, and not going to the doctors, can be as sure as suicide. otr it can be something a lot mor minor, or nothing at all, but why run the risk?

Sounds like diabetes, just go to your health care provider to get checked for it, just because it doesn't happen frequently doesn't mean it's not serious.

ask your doctor to check blood sugar, vitamin deficiencies and thyroid just to be sure. you can also look up vasovagal response or pheochromocytoma see if this sounds familiar.
try not to let yourself get dehydrated.
