I've had problems with vertigo (dizziness and lack of balance) since my whiplash-inducing car accident five years ago. Taking 2.5 mg of Valium takes care of it in mere minutes.

Try drinking some strong black coffee to combat the sleepiness. Also, drink plenty of water. You may be dehydrated and drinking plenty of water is always a good idea when you have a cold.
Did you take the correct dose of the cold medication? Recheck on the bottle. If you've taken too much then at least call and talk to a nurse, doctor or poison control number.

Eat a cold orange minutes before you walk in. You should have a cool shower, get some icy cold water to take with you to your exam. Fill up on water previously as well - even if you have to get up for the toilet it will help you to walk every 30mins or so. Make sure you get some good food into you now!!!!. Carbohydrates esp. And If you're allowed, sit with your feet up and crossed on the chair, it helps me balance when i feel nauseas. . It will help to settle you and compress your stomach.
