What's your very best food to beat the constipation?!

Question: I've been taking the laxative everyday to get a bowel movement. I think it's not a natural thing to do and I don't want to make this habit throughout my life....so wondered are there any foods to beat this bad habit?

2 tablespoons of whole flax seeds that you crush freshly yourself. Drink in water or juice followed by two glasses of plain water or juice.

Safe to continue indeffinately providing that you are not taking blood thinners.

Baked sweet potatoes always do it for me. And they're yummy. Also if you're not drinking enough water, that may be the problem, so try to get in a couple extra glasses every day and see if it helps. And go off the laxatives gradually, a sudden stop might really mess you up since your body is used to regular laxatives.

"fiber one" bars.

Any dried fruit is good. raisins or prunes.

Prunes

apricot & chocklate

Yes.....try eating fresh or dried figs or prunes. Eat a lot of fruit and fresh green vegetables....particularly cabbage and spinach......fruit....if you eat a banana and then drink a glass of water that usually does the trick. Nuts also help move things along as it acts like grit in the gut....Keep drinking water and fruit juices also.....everything will swim out then.

Strong fresh cup of percolated coffee, bowl of bran and a cigarette, in that order... if that doesn't sort you out then see a doctor!

i suffered with constipation for years, and then I started having a bowl of bran flakes with half fat milk every morning for breakfast. It took a few days to start working and now I have a dump about 5 days in every 7.
This has worked for me for more than 20 years. Also drink plenty of water

a bowl of raisin bran or oatmeal usually works for me....need to drink plenty of water and eat lots of fiber....there are all kids of fiber mixes you add to water or chewable tablets..even fiber snack bars.

Bran. ruffage..stop the lax. eat bran cereal for breakfast not the flakes. Take plenty of water throughout the day and let nature take its course...do this as a ritual...add honey or sugar as a sweetener...good luck...I know how it is. the ruffage in your diet will be the undigested type which will cause it to move naturally...the water will help in keeping it from compacting.Mick T is also correct. The bannanas answer below? bannanas can cause const. in some people.

Big bowl of porridge (oatmeal) with bananas and other fruit (try dried apricots). And drink lots of liquids. A satisfyingly immense poo is guaranteed within the hour.

Oatmeal works for me. I need the fiber and learned to like it. The whole oats kind made with plenty of water, into microwave on second hottest heat for 1 minute, stir and continue until it is the consistency you like.

Also, prune juice. It tastes pretty good. You can water it down.

My doctor gave me a prescription powder and told me to take it every day. When that was too much, he said to reduce it by half, take every other day, just experiment. It's better not to use this stuff but he said I could do it everyday and not have a problem.

One thing is that we don't let ourselves sit on the stool long enough. Close the door and read a magazine.

Eat fibrous food (they call it roughage): oats, grains, barley; eat porridge and drink at least two litres of water every day. Avoid stodge like eggs, milk, cheese, all cakes and sweet and sugary substances.

Dried fruits such as apricots, figs and prunes
Fruit juices made with 100% fruit,
lentils and beans,
cabbage, kale, spinach, sprouts, cauliflower,
grapes, apples and strawberries,
wholemeal pasta, rice and bread,
avoid refined and fatty foods as far as possible.

Taking laxatives daily is not wise and i would urge you to see your GP if you are having that much trouble going.
Lactulose is a gentle laxative that will get things moving so ask your GP to prescribe you that.

Bran flakes are good, try putting fresh fruit on it as well, rasberries, strawberries, even a nice ripe pear are all good and should help.

Lots of water and an activia yoghurt everyday!!!!!
