Irritable Bowel syndrome.. the pain doesnt go away, help!?!

Question: Yesterday I was in so much pain that I could barely walk.. so i went to see my gynecologist and he called me in for an ultrasound and there was.. I had IBS..

Doctor prescribed me pills, and recomended that I should take more fiber into my diet and prunes help as well, etc. I have always suffered from constipation.. but holly crap, the pain is horrible.. so today I woke up and there is still an uncomfortable feeling, hurts a bit, and my lower abdomen is still bloated.

How to ease this? I took the pill yesterday night and today 2 times. For how long should the pain last?? I hate it!

IBS is very common and very miserable. I've known people who have it. It manifests itself in different ways with different individuals. Some people have chronic diarrhea, and others have chronic constipation. Still others have alternating diarrhea and constipation. Medication and diet can control the disease, but there is really no cure that I know of. Most IBS patients have remissions, where they are free of symptoms, except for periodic flare-ups. Be patient and take the pills. They don't work overnight, but you should have some relief eventually. Also, watch your diet and avoid the foods that don't agree with you. You should have fiber in your diet, but avoid roughage, such as fresh produce, nuts and seeds. Canned fruits and veggies are usually well tolerated. Also ease up on dairy products. Never eat when you are upset or in a hurry. Try to relax and keep stress to a minimum. IBS is not a deadly disease, but it can be painfully annoying. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

Well, I recently had a similar situation.. and found something that took care of it for me. I started drinking about 1/4-1/3 of a glass of aloe vera juice twice daily.. I buy it in gallon containers from health food stores.. costs about 15.00 bucks a gallon but last a month or so. Be sure and get 100% pure aloe vera juice.... I drink it every day now.. it will take it a few days to get you tummy straightened out... 4-5 probably

I have IBS. So, I know how you feel. Try taking some Tylenol or Ibuprophen for the pain, but otherwise no there is not much you can do except for going to the hospital and having them give you something stronger. I used to have so much pain for like 6 to 8 hours and most of that time was spent doubled over sitting on the toilet. I had to start drinking skim milk, taking fiber tablets. Cutting almost all the dairy products out. If you do eat them then take a dairy digestive pill before hand. They help alot. Take a fiber pill everyday or make sure you eat cereal with fiber in it. Like Fiber one or whole grain cereals. I could not eat corn at all, because it does not digest. Make a diary of everything you eat and find out what triggers the episodes. Don't drink much pop either. When you do have an episode drinking little bits of sprite or 7up does help. But do not over due it. I used to be constipated for 5 to 7 days and then I would have an episode and have to call off work or I would be at work and had to go home, because I could not stand up straight, walk straight or barely function. I know the pain that IBS causes and it is not fun. Drink lots of water and if you don't have a bowel movement every day or every couple of days, then take a stool softener. This will make you have one so you don't get backed up. I have been episode free for almost a year now. One other thing "Are you stressed out?" This will cause an episode also. Try to eliminate as much stress as you can. I have an email account so you can email me if you have more questions. Feel better soon.

Physicians normally prescribe anti-spasmodic meds for IBS which really do not work and can make the condition worse. For IBS you should be taking muscle relaxants every day. The muscle relaxant Soma (carisoprodol) will affect both smooth and skeletal muscle. Find the correct dose for YOU and you'll be better off for it.

Now, print this out and hand it to your physician.
