Blood question...?!

Question: for example if you had cancer or HIV but wasn't aware would the blood count show it up or would you need a special blood test.So would it be possible to have a full blood count done and for the doctors not to know you had cancer.

HIV and HEP C tests are done with a RED TOP colored resr tube.Yes HIV and HEP test's are done with blood work. Cancer is a differnt story, they have to run different test for thAT SO MANY TYPES OF CANCER, Perhaps leukemia could be done with a blood test as a premilinary, counting white blood cells, but I would ask a physician. I used to be a phlebotomist. I cant really say about cancer. They cant just tell if they do not do that specific test on purpose though. It does not just show up like a miracle, they have to preform that test on the blood. They have to be actually looking for HIV or Hep C. .

Blood tests CANNOT diagnose cancer. However, my leukemia was found through a complete blood count at a gyno apt. The leukemia was so far advanced that 90% of my circulating blood was blast cells. They still had to do the bone marrow biopsy to confirm though. Other leukemias and lympomas and hiv can be found that way, but only once they are fairly far along. Other cancers may never show a trace in your blood work. So ulitmatly, no, a blood test is not gonna conclusivly tell you either way
