I think one will come about fairly soon. The reason I think so is because Muslims in the Middle East refuse to have their children vaccinated for things like polio. At the same time, parents in America are starting to use the "religion" excuse to avoid getting their kids vaccinated which can put other children at risk. So I'm betting on the next two years because of a combination of factors.
Pandemic is like epidemic (only with a larger coverage like Bird flu of the Southeast Asia). With the advances in medicine today, it is less likely to have a pandemic. Diseases today are easily treated and the way of preventing disease greatly improved (immunization, vector control etc.)
Unless a new strain of virus or other microorganism is discovered, it is unlikely to have a pandemic event today.
