I don't know why you were prescribed diuretics but I would have broken them in half and not stopped cold turkey on them. But that said, you need to watch your salt intake, it causes you to retain fluid, also drink lots of water to flush out your kidneys and you will go to the bathroom more often. Watch soda, even diet, contains lots of salt. Diet soda has more than regular soda. The only soda that does not have a lot of salt (sodium) is Diet Rite by RC. My husband drinks it because of HBP. Try the water and watch the salt and I think you will see a big difference. Exercise to lose weight, drink water when you get thirsty from exercising.

go see a doctor.DUH!

It seems you stopped them without doctor's advice. Go for a consultation, you are probably going in renal failure. Get it checked ASAP.
Good luck!

You need to drink at least 8 cups of water a day.
Cut out soda.

Drinking 100% cranberry juice will flush your bladder out.

If this doesn't help, you need to see your Dr.

Common causes for water retention include kidney, heart and liver problems. When you quit taking your diuretic you start retaining and your body weight goes up rapidly because its water, not fat that the scale is measuring. Before you can answer the question of whether of not you will return to normal you have to know the underlying cause for the water retention.

iomg you're gonna BLOW#ED UP!!!!!!

the side affects are written below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

What Are the Side Effects?

* Frequent urination. This may last for up to four hours after each dose. If you are taking two diuretic doses each day, take the second dose no later than late afternoon so you can sleep through the night.

* Extreme tiredness or weakness. These effects should decrease as your body adjusts to the medication. Call your doctor or nurse if these symptoms persist, since these symptoms could mean your medication dose needs to be adjusted.
* Muscle cramps or weakness. Be sure that you are taking your potassium supplement correctly, if prescribed. Contact your doctor or nurse if these symptoms persist.
* Thirst. Try sucking on sugarless hard candy. Contact your doctor or nurse if you have extreme thirst, which could be a sign of dehydration.
* Dizziness, lightheadedness. Try rising more slowly when getting up from a lying or sitting position.
* Blurred vision, confusion, headache, increased perspiration (sweating), restlessness. If these effects are persistent or severe, contact your doctor or nurse.
* Dehydration. Signs include dizziness, extreme thirst, excessive dryness of the mouth, decreased urine output, dark-colored urine, or constipation. If these symptoms occur, don't assume you need more fluids--call your doctor or nurse.
* Fever, sore throat, cough, ringing in the ears, unusual bleeding or bruising, rapid and excessive weight loss. Contact your doctor or nurse right away.
* Skin rash. Stop taking the medication and contact your doctor or nurse right away.
* Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting or muscle cramps. Be sure that you are taking your potassium supplement correctly, if prescribed. Contact your doctor or nurse if these symptoms persist.

Contact your doctor or nurse if you have any other symptoms that cause concern.

Only your doctor can answer your questions - it depends on why the diuretics were prescribed in the first place. Diuretics don't cure problems - they only treat the symptoms. You probably still have a medical condition that is causing you to retain water. Find out from your doctor what is causing your fluid retention and ask what treatment alternatives are available. In the mean time, keep taking the diuretics, and if you are out, call the docs office to get a new prescription.

You probably need to go back on the diuretics. Your body has grown accustomed to having the excess fluid removed from your system. This is something you don't want to neglect, because you could do some serious harm to your kidneys. My suggestion: Go back and see the doctor who prescribed the diuretic. Tell him or her about your symptoms, and that you went off the medication (whether you did this on your own, or if the doctor told you to). See what the verdict is. My guess is your doctor will put you back on the medication. Apparently, you do retain fluid, which could be dangerous, so you need to get back on your meds. I hate taking medicine too, but sometimes it's necessary to keep you healthy and feeling well. Good luck!
