My first thought is you are probably lactose intolerant and that you need more fiber in your diet. Fiber works as a digestive regulator. It absorbs water among the other waste as it passes through your colon, and in a sense just keeps things moving. So, if you have these pockets of gas just sitting there in your digestive tract fiber may help push them out and eventually keep them from forming at all. Does that make sense?

Find fiber naturally in whole grains and vegetables, preferably raw. I eat oat bran, which is like a fine oat meal, because it has a ton of fiber in it.

As far as bloating when you drink milk, I would suggest taking a digestive enzyme called lactase. It breaks lactose which is the sugar found in dairy. You can find it in many different brands of digestive enzymes. It will include other things that help break down fats, protiens, starches, etc. and those should also help with your digestion in general.

You should also consider taking a probiotic. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria in your gut. Probiotics are just a supplement of the good guys. They actually help eliminate the bad bacteria, as well as increase in nutritional absorption, and like fiber, assist in regularity. If you want, try just eating some yogurt regularly. But with small amounts. Especially if you think you might be lactose intolerant. I do know, however, some people (including myself) who were completely cured of mild lactose intolerance by probiotic supplementation.

I hope this information is helpful. Bloating can have many causes, but these are some things you can check out and try before seeking medical help.

Jacob S deserves best answer... he said all that was to be said and left nothing out!
