Hemrhoids - help? Preparation H?!

Question: Can anyone tell me how or if Preparation H helps external hemrhoids?

I don't have them, but my BF does. He says that they bleed, but they don't hurt.

It makes it difficult for him to wipe properly because they get in the way.

I'm just wondering if the Preparation H is mostly to relieve pain (which he doesn't have) or if it will help to shrink the size of the hemrhoids?

If anyone else has had this problem and found anything that works to shrink the size of the henrhoids, I would really liek to hear from you.

thank you!

Yes, Preparation H actually alleviates the pain and reduces the size of external hemorrhoids, within limits. However, there are equivalent preparations which cost less. Wal-Mart sells their own Equate brand equivalent. In addition to using a hemorrhoidal ointment or cream, tell your BF to get medicated sanitary wipes. Cottonelle and others make them in bulk (42 ct, 84 ct) which sometimes contain aloe. Look on the toilet paper aisle in your supermarket for those. Preparation H also makes their own medicated wipe, but those will be found with or near the ointment in the drug section of your supermarket. Use of the wipes will keep the area around the hemorrhoids clean so they aren't exposed to germs which will aggravate them. The constant use of the ointment and the wipes should help the problem significantly. I started using the two together about seven months ago, and my problem is essentially gone. But I continue to use them anyway, because I don't want a recurrence. Also, tell your BF to reevaluate his diet. An increase in roughage or fiber (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.) will also help the problem. Tell your BF he might also want to pay his doctor a visit for a consult about the hemorrhoids and the dietary changes. Sometimes hemorrhoids are accompanied by what are called anal fistulas or anal fissures, which sometimes require surgery to eliminate, as can some severe case of external hemorrhoids. His doctor can do a rectal exam to check for them. Here's a link concerning those.

Good luck. I hope this info helps.

That works short term only.

My dad had to eventually have his cut out ----- twice!

1) Keep on with the preparation H.

2) Take ibuprofen to control the excess swelling and discomfort.

3) If the problem persists go see a doctor.
