Smelling Like Smoke?!

Question: My mom smokes and I always have to go to school smelling like smoke. I hate it because no one's parents smoke and so they can pick out the smell easier tha nI can. And what's really sad is that I don't notice it any more. I need a quick, and obviously free-ish solution. Help ME!

Do your own laundry then fold things and keep them in drawers instead of hanging. Toss an open bar of Ivory soap in each of your drawers and keep them closed. It is strong enough to cover up most smells and is just, well, soapy smelling. Don't try to cover the smoke with perfumes - if the smoke odor is strong enough it just smells really funky. If you can hang your coat in the garage or someplace. Try to keep your school clothes separate from your house clothes, and change when you get home so they don't get smoky.

Quietly explain to your mom what you are doing and why, not to make her feel bad but just to open communications. Don't take a chance on her misunderstanding your reasons. Ask her if she has any other suggestions.

Get a bottle of fabreeze and spray around her. Mabey she'll get the point.

try this keep all ur clothes in your room and have her buy you some type of hepa air filter so ur clothes dont smell like smoke.

Just bring perfume in your backpack and spray it a lot. My mom smokes and she always wears a TON of perfume so that nobody knows. It works very well. And ppl will also think that you smell good!

I always went through the same thing..unfortunately your gonna smell like smoke...maybe try febreze or a perfume...wash your clothes in a scented detergent...those are the only things i can think of...never really worked for me...perhaps you should address the issue with your mom...(didnt work for me)..basically until your old enough to move out or she quits your pretty much f***ed

Ask your mom if she can smoke outside on the porch or patio if you have one. My sister in law does this and their house rarely ever smells like smoke. If your mom truly cares about your health she wont smoke in the house around you causing you to breathe in second hand smoke and cause you to have health problems because of her smoking. If she wont take her smoking outdoors then see if she will invest in a good air smoke filter. This may take the cigarette smoke out of the air and make it healthier for you but i dont know alot about them. Try to sit down and have a serious talk with your mom and see if she will agree to do something about the smoking - maybe even quit? Good luck

Mild perfume or something like that, keep your clothes clean and try to keep them in your room, and if you're really serious about it change into an outfit or pajamas to wear around the house and when you're around your parents, so all your clothes dont smell like smoke and only those clothes you choose to wear around the house do.

this is a very sad situation. I feel bad for you.

That's a hard question to answer, but your mom really shouldn't be smoking around you.

You should ask her to respect your space and tell her that you are tired of smelling like smoke all the time. Maybe you can talk her into having a designated smoking area somewhere in the house where you're not, or even better OUTSIDE.

If you think she would even consider quitting tell her to try the gum. It works well. But don't go there right away because its probably a sensitive issue. I would go with asking her politely to at least try to keep her smoking only in certain rooms at certain times or outside. Just when you're not around.

I had the same problem growing up with my dad. It was especially emberassing going to church smelling like smoke (I went to a reeeally conservative church that doesn't condone smoking). Pretty much the only thing you can do is try to cover it up with some kind of cologne or perfume. But it's hard... I don't think it ever really completely covers it up. Good luck! =)

definatley take your clothes to your room as soon as they are done drying. since big stuff isnt washed as often, keep all your sweatshirts and jackets in a closet in YOUR room and dont put them on until you are outside. keep instant hand sanatizer on you cause it will smell clean and try a spray of body freshner in your hair since it will cling there and linger.

Ask your mother what that yellow stuff is on the curtains in the house. It really does yellow everything. Even the paint on the walls will start to turn yellow.
Ask her to paint your room cause it is smoke stained and smells bad.
Maybe she will get a clue and smoke in the garage or outside instead of inside the house.
