PRE DIABETIC I NEED SOME ADVICEe!!?!

Question: I am losing weight...but i have no idea how much or how little sugar i can eat a day. is there a specific amount of grams of sugar i should state as my cut off point? just like you would keep track of your calories? i am 325 bls..6 ft. i was 360. i was on a pill called seroquel that made my metabolism so low it was almost impossible to burn anything off ..so i ened up gaining about 130 bls over 4 years in taking the medication.

i eat 3 meals a day...and its all pretty well balanced..i just dont know if just say i should only be allowing myself 100 g of sugar a day or what..i know that if i exercise it burns it off and i wouldnt have to worry..but i live in canada and its very cold and hard to breathe to walk outside..i have a treadmill but i am waiting on a part to use it. ive been doing little exercises.

what would you suggest or have any advice based on personal experiences?

thanks

I'm prediabetic too. The best thing to do is lose as much weigh as possible, eat whole grains, and limit your sugar intake. I don't think there is any specific amount, just as little as possible. Don't eat sugary treats and sweets everyday. You also have to be careful with carbohydrates. Things like white bread, white rice, and white pasta turn into sugar really fast. Make sure to eat whole grain everything and eat a lot of protein with it so it is absorbed into your body easier. Also be careful with fruit, eat them with protein also. And avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup. That stuff is awful for you.

first of all you need to know that sugar is not the only thing you should avoid. other carbohydrates broke down into sugar in the body. oh god... there is so much to say... i don't know where to start. you know what? check out this website.

By the way 100grams is too much i think the good dose is 45 or 38.

Go ahead and get an insulin glucose meter and check your levels regularly. i had to stop eating all sugar for awhile. try to keep your level around 100. you can see for yourself how rapidly exercise will drop your sugar levels. Good Luck!

See your doctor soon ask to see a dietition Dont wait i did and paying for it now

Sugar does not cause Diabetis you have to count your total Calorie intake that includes Sugar you eat. Count your calories and remember that Sugar has a very high calorie count. Good luck

ME TOO, prediabetic, but found out from GYN MD, not reg. one that some meds take cause rise in blood sugar, like those for bone loss, menieres disease have, is like is all a tradeoff, take meds for 1 thing affect another, like no win thing. Hard for me to lose wgt as other meds cause weight gain!!!!!!!! also is not sugar in itself to cut back on, is simple carbs like white bread, white breads, junk snacks, eat whole grain pasta and bread but watch portions, lots of veggies too are filling and great. read labels for fructose, other terms that are really sugar. also diet soda raises desire for real sugar, causes wgt gain, etc. i just hope for the best. also seems from talking with friends each Md has different opinion of what number is prediabetic, so more confusing., good luck to all of us with this.

Honestly, you should cut the sugar as much as possible. I mean the natural sugars there is no way to cut all of it, but as for sugar free items always go for over regular. Cookies, cake, all of the junk food should never be eaten. I've had type 1 since birth, so maybe it's easier for me to just not do it, but you have to remember that any sugar is bad.
I am not sure about how much in grams is right for you, but yeah walking in the cold and snow can really make your blood sugar crash too. lol I remember that.

i am new at this like you, loss my apple an grape juices,an sugars, total gone they say fats in meats are bad, salt, try ocean salt they say it OK, learning to read the back of cans an packages. did some walking in walmart for the heat an cold. OK as long as you buy anything. good luck

More than anything it's the carbs that hurt you.

You should limit your carbs to no more than 30 grams per day--6 for breakfast. 12 for lunch and 12 for dinner.

Eat lean meats, proteins and good fats (olive oil, coconut oil etc.). Eat leafy green vegetables. Don't try to go low-fat, because there's more and more evidence indicating that it's not fat that makes you fat, it's the carbs. And, low-fat diets keep you hungry. so you eat more. Stay away from excessive fruit intake as well.

Please google names like Dr. Richard Bernstein, Gary Taubes, Dr. Eades, Dr. Kendrick, Dr. Mercola.

Hi, my first suggestion to you is to get in touch with a good dietician, Sugar is not the only thing that gets blood sugar to go up fast, complex carbs do as well. You'd also be surprised at what can get blood sugar to go up fast, for eg. rice cakes.
Listen go to a dietician and eat well from the four food groups, and i live in canada as well our winters are nasty but there are so many things you can do, join a gym, buy a good exercise video or dvd. Trust me exercising and eating welll are key to any healthy lifestyle and you've been given a second chance make the most of it.
Goodluck
