Really delicate question...?!

Question: Hiya.

My boyfriend and I are very careful. We use condoms for oral sex. But recently, i kissed him down there playfully, and a few days later i developed a cold sore, i am worried i gave him herpes.

I know that he did not give me herpes as he shows no symptoms and we are faithful to one another.

But now i am worried i transmitted the virus to him.

I only kissed him on the 'shaft' not anywhere else.

Please, help?

Poor you. It may be that it is not related at all to what you have done with your boyfriend. You may be run down, recovering from a bug/virus which can cause cold sores.
however, you can also carry the herpes virus without any signs or symptoms.
So, one or both of you may be carrying it without knowing it.
Dont worry too much - its not life threatening or dangerous.
Keep being careful, but dont let it put a dampner on things.
If he does develop symptoms, he should go and see a Dr and get some tablets that you both take until it is cleared.
Obviously avoid kissing even his mouth until your cold sore has cleared.
All the best

yo could have i would tell him to go get a yest just incase
good luck xx

Is it possible? Yes.
Is it likely? No.

It's a single, isolated, kiss at a time when you weren't showing symptoms of an outbreak. So the likelihood of transmission is low.

Also, the HSV1 (oral herpes) virus is less easy to catch on your genitals than it is on your mouth. It can happen. It does happen. But it's yet another reason why it is unlikely that you've infected him.

Of course, you won't know for sure unless he gets tested or shows symptoms, etc. etc. But me, I wouldn't bother with it or worry about it.

Good for you for using condoms for oral sex. Very few people are that careful.

Where on your mouth is the sore? Would the affected area have come in contact with him? Were you having any lip tingling then? Was it 2 or 3 days before the outbreak that you kissed him?
The reason why I am asking is that the staging of the outbreak is really important when we are talking how contagious you are at any given time. Go here for more info about that:
http://www.animated-teeth.com/cold_sores...

There is a very slight chance that you may have infected him. Here is a site that explains what he will experience if he was infected. Scroll down to the first episode:
http://www.fda.gov/Fdac/features/2002/20...
He may feel like he has the flu and a fever (prodromal) may or may not have a skin lesion. Usually this occurs from 2-12 days after exposure.
Hope this helps and you all dodged the bullet this time. Continue to use protection. Good luck!
So you don't know for sure that the sore is HSV? It could just be a common canker sore and not a cold sore. go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphthous_ul...
this is a cold sore:

My best advice? Just go to your Dr. or dentist and ask them to verify what it is. If it is a canker sore, then you are both in the clear!

It may not be herpes but some common boils. Go to doctor so that it will be cured immediately.

what I know is that herpes breaks on top of the lips not inside of it, did you have herpes before? what I understood is that you bit your lips before having the sore, any bites or scratches on the mouth tissues from inside it is most likely to turn into sores and that wouldn't be herpes.

possible but not likely
