The best thing to do is get a glucose tolerance test or a blood test to determine why you are having these symptoms. Your grandparents may have developed diabetes with age due to being overweight (if they are)and diet. But if they have had diabetes for the majority of their life then it is the hereditary kind.

A glucose tolerance test is no big deal..it consists of drinking a high sugar drink that tastes like orange soda (on an empty stomach), then waiting a while (I think around 1/2 to 1 hour) and then getting a blood test to see how your pancreas and blood is dealing with the sugar and the output of insulin.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you also have symptoms of an overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism. The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located by your adams apple.(located in the throat area), and has thyroid hormones that control your metabolism and let your cells and tissue know how hard and fast to work. It controls how your body uses calories and carbohydrates. HypERthyroidism can be controlled or symptoms masked with a beta blocker (a certain pill taken on a daily basis), or iodine therapy, . Sometimes a simple outpatient surgery can cure it. It is important to be tested as big problems can result without treatment due to the impact a thyroid has your health. There is a simple blood test to measure the amount of TSH in your blood. I myself know 3 people that have it and they are fine and you would never know. Many people suffer from Thyroid over activity as well as thyroid underactivity which is called hypOthyroidism. Both can be brought under control.
You do have symptoms of hyperthyroidism according to medical journals...headaches, weight loss, and hunger at all times.
Here is a list of hypERthyroidism:

ravenous appetite..always hungry but still results in weight loss.
anxiety/ anxiety attacks and/or depression
Heart Palpitations
feeling hot most of the time/
and or/ Heat intolerance
sweating
irritability
Nervousness
Insomnia
Breathlessness
Increased bowel movements
Light or absent menstrual periods
Fatigue
Fast heart rate
Trembling hands
Weight loss
Muscle weakness
Warm moist skin
Hair loss
Staring gaze
Best bet is to see a doctor. Having no history or age of you it is hard to tell. Do you drink enough water during the day (eight 8 ounce glasses of water daily at least). If you are active, are you replenishing what you sweat out? Water depletion will cause headaches in itself. Are you young and growing...if so your metabolism will be faster. And growing teens and youths are always hungry..cuz they burn calories constantly. Do you have other diseases that run in your family?
Get a blood test and see a doctor..its the best way to tell.

By the way I will give the symptoms for diabetes in the next answer..this is getting too long.

If you are excessively thirsty for no apparent reason, you should see a doctor to check for diabetes.

Yes, weight loss and thirst is associated with diabetes. Your body is unable to convert the food into energy and you constantly feel hungry. Your symptoms potentially point to diabetes.

The symtoms are

-increased thirst
-haveing to go to the washroom more often
-weight loss ( i was really skinney )
-dizzy
-headaches ( thats how i found out )
-and always hungury

You may have Diabetes, you should get checked by your family doctor.

CHECK! deff. u shouldnt be asking people on here u should ask ur doctor!!!!

My son was 17 when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The signs he had were
1. Lost weight, from 130 to 110 within a short time
2. irratable for no reason
3. Extremely tired, loss of energy
4. Took a long time for wounds to heal
5. Loss of concentration, would call someone and forget why he called then get irritable if he couldn't remember
6. extreme thirst and constant urination which came later, and was the reason I took him to the doctor. Had I waited 12 more hours he would have died.

His great grandmother had type 1 diabetes and his grandfather had type 2. His father and I don't have it.

Don't wait around, get checked out!
