MAJOR SINUS problems need HELP!!! ?!

Question: ok i have had major sinus problems or the past 5 months. i have had minor allergys all my life. but recently they have worsened. it started again in october when my old allergys seemed to come back all of a sudden! there was major sinus drainage and it made me feel like i was constantly gagging!! (DOES ANYONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY) it bugs me soo much. then i panic. and my throat seems to swell up. i went to the ER that night. they said i had an infection and gave me a antibiotic. it didnt seem to help because it was a small dosage. i went to the pediatrician in like a week. they gave me a better antibiotic and allergy meds and spray. it seemed to help. I felt totally better for like 2 or 3 months. then it came back again! real sudden! i went on antibiotics again. and the same allergy meds. i use steamers. it seems to get better then come back, get better than come back. a few times in a week. the gagging and swelling sensation is the biggest problem!!! please help!!!

My son gets like that! Last year especially, due to a persistent sinus infection that took three antibiotics and three months to knock out. He would seem better, but it would come back right after we stopped the antibiotics. Needed megastrength antibiotic.
He tried a "netti pot" that looks like a little teapot that you use to pour salty warm water into one nostril and have it flush out your sinuses through the other side....I thought he would hate it, but he used it for about four months faithfully because he felt better. I bought it in a health food store. It keeps it flushed and moist.

oh yeah and i have an inhaler too haha cause i have stressed induced asthma :[ wow im messed up ahah Report It

  • i had similar symptoms about ten years ago. i really think you should see an ENT specialist. unfortunately i waited too long and by the time i got rid of the infection ( with antibiotics) i had permanently lost my sense of smell. don't wait any longer. i hope everything works out well for you

There is a flu going around that acts very much like this. Heavy mucus draining down the throat, almost gagging you. There are so many things out there that build up your immune system to fight off things like this. High doses of vitamin C, various mushroom tablets, or the mushrooms themselves, zinc, selenium, elderberry extract, etc. The first thing would be to take a good multivitamin to build up your body.

Neti pot! Make it your best friend. Flush DAILY. It will help your sinus problems for sure.

The gagging is caused by post-nasal drip, which can't really be fixed unless you deal with your whole sinus. So check out your local drug store or better food store to get one!

You might have to take 1/2 a zyrtec each night .
In addition I recommend this sinus wash. The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
    you need

    distilled water
    sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
    best wishes

I have the same exact symptoms. I wake up some mornings gaging til I throw up mucus/ drainage. It is that time of year.
I take zyrtec one a day, then after a few days or so I switch it up and take clairatin. By switching it up it helps to keep your body from getting to use to the drug.
What sometimes happens is that after taking a drug for a period of time, The body gets use to the drug and tends to not respond to it as much. so maybe try mixing it up a little by switching back and forth til you find what works best for you.
    good luck.

I had this problem for the last year. After many different meds to try to help this, I finally have the right one. It's called Extendryl-PSE. It stopped the always running runny nose and helped stopped the drainage. It has 120 pseudoephedrine HCL and 2.5 methscopolamine nitrate. It's the best thing I've tried in years and it works. There are 2 other meds that have this same combination and they are Allerx-D and Amdry-D. I had a persistent cough with mine, and the only thing that helped with the cough was taking a steroid, Prednisone for a week along with a Azithrimycian, an antibioitic. Once the worse was behind me, the Extendryl PSE once or twice a day was perfect for me. I went to see an Allergist on top of the other doctors, and this is what is working for me. Contact your dr. and ask questions. Mention these meds and see what he says. I wish you the best, I know how it was to suffer with this for so long, and to now finally have something that works, is heaven. I saw the referenct to neti-pots. I have not tried one yet, but it is on my list to try! I hear great things about them.

NeilMed is another sinus rinse that I use on a regular basis. I too have/had suffered terribly from allergies and constant chronic sinusitis. Best decision I made after getting worse from 6 years of allergy shots with an allergist was change my care to an ENT. I'm continuing with the shots but since his testing and subsequent weekly shots, I'm ALOT better with the combination of his care and the sinus rinse. If you are suffering alot with your allergies, it might be beneficial for you to be allergy tested. If you are experiencing symptoms year round, an antihistamine since as Zyrtec (this works better for me than Claritin) might help. A nasal corticosteriod (like Flonase, Rhinocort) could be in order also. The next time you visit your Pediatrician see if he would recommend an ENT--my preferred choice for testing. Hope you feel better!
