I had mono when I was 26. I was ill for months before I was diagnosed. I had periods of extreme fatigue and a constant low grade fever 99.6 or so. I would have periods where I would feel absolutely like I was going to die. At one point, I almost had a friend take me to the ER. But these "episodes" would pass. But I had *no* appetite the entire time.

I didn't consult a doctor until I started getting the throat infection. After that, I slept most of the time. The sore throat was awful but I didn't even have codeine, all I had was over-the-counter throat spray. But it didn't bother me that much as I was too tired to care.

My doctor also warned me not to lift heavy objects or do any excessive moving around as your spleen enlarges as well as painful swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

Antibiotics won't do you any good as mono is not a bacterial infection but a virus. You could ask your doctor if an anti-viral will help.

Either way, it is a very long, drawn out illness. It was a long time before I started feeling hungry again. I would say it took 8 months or so from the time I started feeling ill to when I was completely back to normal. Even after I got better, I still fatigued easily for a time.

Sleep a lot and take lots and lots of pain relievers.

Just take what the doctor prescribed.

Mono... or the Epstien Barr Virus cannot be cured with Antibiotics (since it's a virus)

Rest rest rest!! That's the best you can do! Mono will make you extremly tired!!!

Just don't push it, you will get better soon but it will take awhile!

Good luck

Peachy is right, just take it easy. It takes a while but you'll get over it. Get a lot of rest, keep physical activity to a minimum, & take meds as your doctor orders. Good luck!!

been there and done that Sorry to tell you It will take a long time to get over it When I had I missed 2 months of school and was weak for 4 more months after that Lots of rest and LISTEN to your doctor

Antibiotics don't work. The disease has to make its life circle and then it'll go away. If your throat annoys you so much you have to get some special pharmaceutical solution and make gargles to calm it down. Also you have to rest, rest , rest. When I got mono, it lasted for about 4 weeks and afterwards I had anaemia because I didn't eat well and because it had tired me down so much. Hope you get well soon
