My brother just got a kideny transplant..are these things normal?!


Question: my brother got a kidney transplant on monday. his surgery was sopposed to be 3 hours but eneded up to be 6 hours because his potassium went high. after his surgery he had trouble peeing and he puked alot.
before the transplant, when he was takeing dyalisis he also puked but not quite as much...
Whats wrong with him?

He just had a major surgery, so vomiting is not that uncommon. Also, if he has been on dialysis, it's going to take his body a while to start to urinate normally, as he probably hasn't urinated normally in a long time.
ANY peeing is good at this point, it means the kidneys are starting to work. It will also take a while for his electrolytes (potassium, sodium, etc) to straighten out as well, as the kidneys start to filter things out of the blood.
God Bless him, he's had a hard road. He's on the way to recovery, it's just going to take some time.
