Can a diabetic (type 1) be drafted?!

Question: Even if there was a draft (which there isn't), a person with diabetes (regardless of type) would not be eligible.

No person with diabetes previously diagnosed may join the military...any branch. The military views it as too much of a liability. Also, the military cannot guarrantee that a diabetic would get the necessary care, supplies and medication if deployed on assignment, especially overseas or wartime.

If a person, who is a member of the armed forces, is diagnosed with diabetes, they are given a medical discharge.

EMT

No. Besides, there is no draft.

no......too much of a risk/expense. God help the rest of us if the draft is reinstated. =(

Hello - NO i don't believe for Active duty - say the Infintry. But if you do not want to be drafted of course this would be a way of not (you can only decide this for yourself) but with Diebities you need to eat on a regular basis and during training and AIT you do not eat at regular times, plus sometimes you may not eat at all and be up for numberous hours on end due to extensive training. If you would like to join the military then there are jobs there in which you can do just like any other job!!! I think the only job you would not be qualified for is the Infintry due to being on the front line, which would endanger you and your battlebuddies. Let me know if you want to join or are afraid (not afraid just apprehensive as i would be) and i can answer your question more in debpt.

Back in the day..... when there actually was a draft... you prob would have been classified 4F..... you would have been drafted after all the women and children and before the babies... at least jokingly.... so would it work that way again if there were a draft? I'm guessing what ever system they came up with would likely bear a resemblance to the old system.

No, if you are type one you can't.....when they called me when I was getting out of high school I told them I had diabetes type one and they said, "Have a nice day" and hung up. Our disease is still that serious. I think maybe they would let us do something else, but I doubt it.

NO!
