OK, I'm not a health care professional, but I also experience the coughing symptoms you describe when eating ice cream, drinking blended icy drinks like Frappacinos or Jamba Juices. I do have a slight lactose intolerance and many food allergies so I know what an allergic reaction feels like (mainly gluten but fish is the worst!) My theory is that the coldness of the liquids we drink causes the tissues/membranes inside our throat to shrink or tighten. I notice the coughing is much worse when I eat or drink quickly; and the coughing always stops within 10-15 minutes after I've finished my snack. I'm sure there is some kind medical term for this phenomena - I say this just makes sense. Kind of your throat's equivalent of "brain freeze." Coughing is our bodies way of stimulating the tissue to rewarm and increase bloodflow to the area. Just my two cents worth!

You are allergice to a hormone in dairy products (this is most common in people with asthma) and the reaction creates a lot of excess musos in your throat and lungs causing you to cough because your body has to clear your airways. There's not much you can do about it, just cut down on the amount of the items that cause it. I have asthma and it happens a lot to me if I eat too much of dairy products.

You know how you feel , you have to figure it out.

aw.. you might be allergic to ice cream! i give you LOTS of sympathy! *hug*

Milk products cause mucus production to increase in the body. Or you may be allergic to something in the ice cream. How about--dont eat it anymore?
