I am an older person, and I say the only way you are going to quit coughing is to quit smoking. I smoked for 55 years. Coughed all the time. A year ago, I woke up one morning and could hardly breathe. Ended up in the ER and was only about 2 hours away from respiratory failure. My oxygen level should be in the upper 90s, and it was only 64. I had to be in the hospital for 3 1/2 days and started on the patch because obviously I needed something, and couldn't smoke.

When I got home, I decided to continue with the patch since I got such a good start. After a month, I started on Chantix. Feb. 23, was my first anniversary of not smoking. I never thought I could quit smoking, but my experience in the ER was the most frightening thing that has ever happened to me. I have had COPD for many years and continued to smoke. And cough. I use 5 inhalers every single day. One of them every 4 hours.

Shortly after I stopped smoking, I quit coughing! It is such a relief not to be doing that any more! I will not tell you to quit smoking. That is something that you have to WANT to do, and you will not succeed unless you really want to.

But I will suggest that you quit. You will feel better. And you will be healthier. And you will no longer cough like you do now.

Good luck!

You may want to reconsider your docs advice. Try gargling with Dr techners to help cut phlem.
I have same trouble with Phlem but from fema trailer not smoking
