I have to clear my throat a lot, is there something wrong with me?!

Question: I never used to clear my throat. But then other people kept doing it so I tried it. And now I can't speak without having to clear my throat every now and then. But it's very irritating when I'm in a meeting and everything's silent and I have to constantly clear my throat. If I don't, my voice gets very raspy and I sound like I have a cough.

You have set up a vicious cycle.
Constant throat-clearing is a form of voice abuse, as it irritates the vocal cords and causes them to swell (that's why your voice sounds raspy). This swelling makes you feel like there is something in your throat that needs clearing.
You'll need to break the habit. Every time you feel the urge to clear your throat, swallow instead. You may want to drink water to help you do this, which works great.
Your vocal cords will heal completely in a couple of weeks as long as you work at it.

you most likely have a minor cold.
