I think I have tonsillitis, but I'm not sure! Help!?!

Question: Okay so I think I might have it, but I'm not sure. It hurts to talk, swallow, and breathe. I have mucus covering all of my throat and it's really nasty. Every few minutes i get up to go spit some out. I've had the chills all day no matter how much I cover up. I really think I have it, but my mom won't take me to the doctor. Is there any over the counter drug I can get to stop all of this since she won't take me to go see a proffessional? HELP PLEASE!!! I'm miserable!

You definitely have something, but it's not necessarily tonsilitis.
Check the back of your throat - Just behind your tongue, on each side, are two sacs. These are your tonsils. They are probably red and big looking. If they have white spots on them or look really unusual, then it might be tonsilitis or strep throat.

If not, it sounds more like an upper respiratory infection. You should definitely see a doctor; no one can accurately diagnose you online. You can get plenty of over-the-counter stuff to make you feel better; Tylenol, throat sprays or lozenges, or even Robitussin.

Talk to your mom again and tell her your symptoms. Let her know that you're not playing sick or making drama, you sincerely are sick.

I sort of had something similar. Although my symptoms were constant and nagging. I had a lot of mucous in the back of my throat, but, on top of that, my tonsils were filled with pus and it was visible just by looking in a mirror. I'd often spit out these little white chunks (yummy I know), but this was tonsilitis. Actually, it was called chronic cryptic tonsilitis. You haven't mentionned at all the white chunks so, I doubt you've got the cryptic tonsilitis although I'm not a doctor and wouldn't know this. But I do know constantly having post nasal drip is a pain and gets pretty frustrating when you can't go a few minutes without having to spit it out.. Go see a doc, go to a clinic without your mom, hoping you're of age to go on your own... If not, then convince her somehow.. Might be nothing, but until you go, you won't know.
