It is not likely for disease to be transmitted directly from animals to humans. However, I do know that there has been a lot of concern in agricultural (farm) settings about diseases that may spread to pigs. Of all animals, the DNA of pigs most closely resembles human DNA and therefore, it is feared that disease may mutate once spread to the pig population into a form of the disease that can then easily spread to humans. I recall learning this years ago when I read about US scientists raising concerns with agricultural practices abroad (CHina specifically) of raising their poultry in close proximity to their pigs. Disease spreads rapidly thru bird populations and the risk of disease transferring to pigs where it may then mutate and threaten humans was / is a major concern. I believe that presently they are studying antibodies in horses that are resistant to Avian Flu so perhaps your friend got confused.

Yeah, it's possible I suppose. People can die from Bird flu, can't they? I think it's possible that horses have emitted it to us, yes.

Well i don't eat horses..and i don't drink milk from horses.. i don't have anything to do with horses..and yet i am prone to colds
