If the powder in a glucagon is packed, has it gone bad?!

Question: I don't normally take it out of the case, and only had to use a glucagon once, so I'm not totally fluent on it. I noticed today other day the powder is packed, not rock hard, just packed, but it doesn't expire for another 9 months. Is it supposed to look like that? I never noticed before.

Good question! I tried to look online, but didn't find anything, and also read the insert that came with my kit...nothing about packed powder...just that it is freeze dried.. The vial we have has a little tablet looking thing in it. So it looks all packed together but not like stuck to one end or anything. I think the main thing would be that it dissolves correctly into the diluting solution and is clear and of waterlike consistency at time of use. As far as I know from what I have read and been told, it is supposed to be good as long as it has been stored between 68-77 degrees and is not expired. Your best bet would be to call your pharmacy...I would think they would know what it is supposed to look like. Good luck and hope I have helped (or that someone else knows for sure)!

Just shake it up.
And always shake it before you add the liquid.

It should be fine.

mine looks like a solid and the phamplet says its supposed to look like that.

If you ever have to use it, you should not shake it, you're supposed to swirl it. Shaking causes air bubbles, NOT a good thing in anything you have to inject.

You can always call the company and ask. They usually have a 1-800 or 1-888 number in their phamplet or on the carton.
