Can chihuahuas cure asthma?!

Question: ???

Answers: ???

good god no!!!!!

this is an old (and dangerous) and disproven myth. Allergic reactions are one trigger of asthma. All dogs..including chihuahua's have both saliva and dander the two things that trigger allergies..so chihuahua's actually can cause asthma flares to occur.

some other asthma myths

myth: Many people think asthma is an emotional disease; if you are an emotional person you get asthma.

response: Emotions do not cause asthma. But, if you already have asthma, emotional stresses such as crying, yelling, or laughing hard can make your asthma worse.

myth: Many people think that children will outgrow asthma.

response: Sometimes, when children grow up, their asthma may be less severe than it was when they were younger. However, many times asthma does not get better as a child grows and sometimes it even gets worse. It is also important to remember that just because you may not be having a lot of asthma symptoms does not mean that your asthma has gone away.

Myth: It's better to 'tough it out' without taking asthma medication.

The Facts:
The lungs do not get stronger or better able to deal with asthma if a person tries to work through an attack without medication. In fact, the lung inflammation that goes along with an attack can cause permanent damage to the lungs. Always use medication according to the Asthma Action Plan. If you have questions, talk with your healthcare provider.

Myth: Steroids used in asthma are dangerous.

The Facts:
The corticosteroids used to control asthma are not the same as the often illegal steroids used by some athletes and have no effect on muscles or athletic performance. They are related to the steroids found in creams to reduce itch or inflammation of the skin. Many scientific studies have shown asthma medications to be safe over long periods of use.

Myth: Steroids used in asthma will stunt growth.

The Facts:
Large medical studies have shown that children using inhaled corticosteroids will eventually reach their normal height, although there may be very small, temporary delays in growth initially. However, it has been clearly shown that untreated asthma and the resulting permanent damages to the lungs have a significant effect on reducing growth. Be sure to work with your healthcare provider and the Asthma Action Plan to treat your child's asthma in the best possible way.

Eating lizards will relieve asthma

Although lizards have ephedrine, a bronchodilator once used for asthma, you shouldn't eat them! This drug has many serious side effects such as blood pressure elevation and nausea and is no longer recommended in view of other safer and more effective asthma medicines available today.

well for a fact i could not tell you...but when i was little my cuz use to get sick all the time and her parents bought her a chihuahua and yes it seem to work becuse after that she did not have any problems. The doggy unfortunatly got sick and passed away, though!

Chihuahuas don't shed or create any significant dander, so they are certainly not likely to aggravate anybody with asthma or allergies and are a good choice for such pet owners. But I think it's a big stretch to say that they actually *cure* asthma.
