Does anyone know anything about pink eye?!

Question: My son has been very sick and was also diagnosed with Pink Eye. He felt like something was in it and I checked it. The inside of the upper eyelid is very red and there are two small white bumps on it. Does anyone know if Pink Eye causes these bumps? This is the fourth day of treatment. It was starting to look better, now it is pretty red again, probably because he has been rubbing it because it itches.
I don't know much about Pink Eye, I only know it SUX! My poor son is only eight and has been sick ALL WEEK with very high fever. The doctor told me it just has to run it's course. It is very frustrating with your children are sick and there is NOTHING you can do about it!!!
I appreciate any input. Thanx!

My son developed pink eye last night. I talked with a nurse about it this morning. The doc called in a prescription for tobramycin ophthalmic solution for him. I give him 1-2 drops in each eye 3 times a day.

She was VERY CLEAR with me that if his symptoms are not significantly better in two days...and especially if he gets worse (going from his cold to a fever, or feeling more ill) then I need to take him in to see if there is either a secondary bacterial infection or something worse going on.

I would not be shy about calling the doctor again or taking your child back to see him or her. It sounds like you are worried and unsettled about what your son is experiencing, so don't hesitate to be his advocate and find out what the heck is going on and see if there is anything else they can do to make him more comfortable.

Good luck and I hope he gets much better very soon. Hang in there.

Pink eye is nothing just dont scrach it and dont tuch anybody you will be fine in 5 day or less

Web MD does.

That web site should be able to help you with questions when you are unable to consult your doctor.

You're right Pink Eye sucks! If the infection doesn't seem to be getting any better I'd just have him checked again to make sure there aren't some side affects from the medicine or another problem. The two white spots are probably styes, and those can be irritating. If that's what they are you should have the Dr remove them, they can just do it in the office. My daughter once had pinkeye as a baby and she reacted to the medicine and her eyes swelled shut and drained a sticky thick "goo" very similar to rubber cement. Pink eye is on eof those things that it's very easy to reinfect, so be careful of hand washing, etc. Good luck and hope he feels better soon.

There is an ointment your MD can prescribe for your son. To my knowledge it's caused by a virus, which is also the reason for his fever.
It's also contagious!!

Pink eye can be cause from either a viral or bacterial infection, and depending on which one it is, can or cannot be treated with antibiotics or eye drops. Chamomile tea is supposedly a wonder on pink eye, and some claim it clears it up within a day or two.

Simple place cool, moist chamomile tea bag on each closed eye for about 10 minutes. Repeat this every couple hours. You can buy these tea bags at any supermarket. Make sure chamomile is the only ingredient.
You can also just wash the eyes out with the tea, make a compress with a cloth, or even soak a cotton ball in the tea and wipe the eyes every so often.

Most doctors prescribe eye drops for pink eye. i don't know about the bumps. If things don't seem a lot better in another day, call him back. Also--PL:EASE remember how contagious pink eye is. Wash your hands at least every time you touch your child or something he has touched. Use hand sanitizer. Wash his clothing , bedding & towels separately. Keep him away from the pets unless he is able to understand the dangers in passing the disease on. it isn't fun to have pink eye--I've had it twice in the last 3 years. You will both survive it, but it will be a while before you stop washing your hands!!

You should take him back to the doctor. Poor little guy sounds miserable!!! tell him not to scratch his eye until you can go back...HOPE HE FEELS BETTER!!

I have had Pink Eye and it is very itchy. I don't know if it causes bumps. Did you mention to your doctor that it is getting red again? If not I strongly suggest you call him or get a second opinion. In my case when the redness got worse and my eyes became swollen, my doctor told me that it could wait until my follow-up appointment at the end of the week. My eyes kept getting worse. When the doctor saw me he had me go straight to emergency. It turns out that I was allergic to the eye drops he had prescribed. If your son's eye gets any worse don't hesitate to have him checked soonest. Hope this helps.
