If you are diabetic and take insulin shots??!

Question: where do you give yourself shots? I have been diabetic for 10 years and have always done the shots in my lower abdomen area but I was just wondering if there was any other sites you can or have done your shots, and if so where? No negative remarks please.

My daughter gets 4 shots per day. I rotate the sites, each day she gets one shot in her butt, thigh, leg and arm. Always in a different part of each area. And each day I switch sides ... one day will be all on the right side, and the next on the left.

You didn't say what kind of insulin ... if you take short acting you may want to remember that different sites absorb more slowly than others. The stomach is the fastest, then the arms, then the thighs, then the butt. My daughter gets one long acting (Lantus) every day and that one always goes in her behind. The other three short acting (Humalog) go in the other sites. Since she eats slowly in the morning her first Humalog goes in her thigh.

You have to be careful not to always give your shots in the same spot. You will develop hard spots in your fat from injecting in the same spot too often.

You should go to some of the sites of the makers of insulin ... I know some of them have diagrams showing where you can inject insulin. There are more areas than you would think.

This is the site for Lantus, but this diagram is the same for other types of insulin.

The kids on my diabetes support group all have different sites. My son refused to try anywhere except his tummy. We were told he could do shots on his butt, thighs or upper arms. Some parents report that their kids insulin quits working in certain spots because they always use the same site-so it would be good to change it up.

I do a shot of long lasting insulin every night. I usually give them in the belly, although I also like to use my upper thigh. You can also use the back of your arm, but I think it would require some one doing it for you. The abdomen is the part of the body that absorbs the insulin the quicker, followed by the upper thigh area. It's too hard to do the butt area by yourself

My sister would do her abdomen like you, her upper leg (thigh), her arm, and some times her buttocks. Her husband would help her in the hard to reach places. She now has a port & a machine that automatically administers it. (I forgot what it's called...sorry) but she really likes it and no longer gives herself shots. She's been on insulin for 20 years.

if they are be there for them help them they need it

Well thats cool my sis is too wow cool to know of someone else who is anyway she does it in her arms legs, where ever she can reach, i couldnt gove my self needles youre strong and so is my sis!

Ask your pharmacist for their opinion. Fatty tissue is the best place and my body is okay for that but my legs are too lean. They just bruise really badly.

P.S. I use a pen needle and the instructions for it tell me what sites I can use for my injections.

my son only wants to take his shots in his arms. .. he is only 8 and started giving some of his own shots within a couple of weeks of finding out he is a diabectic.. he is very brave.. he don't want to give them in his stomach but does not mind the arms..... good luck to you...

Most of the time I take my shots in the abdomen. When I'm in public I usually use my thighs (I shoot right through my jeans)

I am not diabetic. But a VERY large portion of my family is. My, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. Most use the insulin pump. It works well, and helps out a lot with regulating your blood sugar level. I would highly suggest that you get a pump, to give yourself less of a hassle. And to answer your original question, although many people have different spots for shots, the lower abdomen/side of hip is a very good area for the injection.
