my daughter has crohns shes 24 had it since age 12 sorry to hear you have just been diagnosed as i know now debilitating it is. i guess that if it is so bad ur unable towork then u may be able to claim but otherwise i guess not. best to contact the DWP or look on their website for further info. i think its bad that people with crohns can t get free medication like some other diseases she takes 3 different medications a day and often has to have others. if u want any more info feel free to email.

I used to work with someone who had this. You cannot claim disability allowance for this as you still able to work.

disability rules change all the time. you should check with your doctor to see if they think you qualify. there is no way i could work but thankfully i don't have to or i would be in big trouble! also there is a website that has lots of people chatting regarding your disease www.healingwell.com and look for Crohn's as it is alot more common than you realize. good luck!

Talk to your hospital counsellor and the social worker on all and any issues you have. If you feel they are a little woolly headed (they are over worked) write it down, keep a copy and tell them you need a reply asap. Start to keep a diary if you haven't already. Then you will know when you gave them the letter, days you have appointments and days you felt the most unwell and what you had eaten the day previous etc.

I'm 18 and was diagnosed at 14 with Crohn's. It is very disabling for some people, including myself. I'm not sure if I can help you with getting disability living allowance, but I know at least here in the states it's covered under a Disabilities Act, which has allowed to me be absent months at a time from school and still graduate on time. So I'm sure there's a way to do that for you. I wish you all the best!
