I quit smoking cigarettes three weeks ago and I am concerned about my body clean!

Question: So far all I have had happened was a rough voice for the second week and an increased sense of smell. THe crackling in my lungs has gone away but I havent cough really anything out of my lungs. They feel great but I have always heard about how your lungs will clear themselves out after quiting. I have not experience this yet. Is something wrong? I even lost a couple pounds as well. I am using the gum can this be affecting my lungs cleansing themselves?

Congrats for quiting the cigs! One of the toughest things to do.

Your lungs will eventually rid themselves of the accumulated pollution, but it will take a long time. There is nothing you can do speed this up.

The gum has no effect on the lungs.

yah, ur body will get rid of anything that is not permanent damage.....drink alotta water.......if you smoked long and hard (haha!) then they may never be 100% better

Not likely. I don't remember coughing anything up when I quit. It gets better, keep up the good work!

Google " the health benefits when I stop smoking"

Maybe you can find this list that I saw years ago that explains what health improvements occur and at how many weeks/months after you stop smoking...

Don't worry about trying to clean yourself. You have done the biggest part by quit. Your body will do the rest. Only thing now is to not relapse or hang around too much secondhand smoke.

Congrats!!!

drink more water, eat a healthy diet, exercise, and see a pulmonologist.

It takes time to clean up the mess that smoking leaves. Hang in there; things will gradually improve.
