It can depend on the prior health of the rat. If it was a robust adult rat in its prime (between 4 months and 2 yrs old), then it's chances are better. If the rat is given a proper antibiotic dose, is hydrated and otherwise kept comfortable, recovery is possible. You probably have a 50/50 chance.
