Question: causes r increased maternal age, presense of extra chromosome, genetic disorders

Answers: causes r increased maternal age, presense of extra chromosome, genetic disorders

It is caused by a genetic mutation, also known as 'trisomy 21'.

On the 21st chromosome, the alleles don't separate properly, resulting in 3 bits of genetic info, instead of the usual 2 for that set of traits.

due to 1 too many chromosomes. there's nothing the parents did to cause it. it happens upon conception.

It's all about that we have 23 chromosmes each...but sometimes an extra one gets in the bunch and therefore that causes downs Syndrome, or retardation. My brother has an extra on and isn't quite right really. Also, they say that if the mom as using birth control pills that were later banned because of birth defects that is another reason for downs syndrome. But I find the downs syndomre people very very gentle folks and sometimes they even get together and marry and live normal lives. It's not a death sentence and in todays society we are more apt to accept them and they know this. So Down's Syndrome is caused by Chomosome damage an extra one, and/or probably birth control of the 1950's!
