What May My Sister Be Sick With?!

Question: She came home today complaining of a bad stomach ache in her upper abdomen area near her rib cage on both sides. She says it hurts to stand up and that her stomach feels like if she "accidently drank a bunch of chlorine in the swimming pool." She does not have a fever and isn't nauseous.

My sister is 19 and has had problems with acid reflex. Might her symptoms have something to do with that or could it be something worse (appendicitis, pancreatitis, etc)?

Hi there, I had similar symptoms late last year and I found out that I had gall stones. I used to have acid reflux as well. I got my gallbladder removed this year on the 8th Jan and since then I have no more problems or reflux, Get your sister to go and have an upper abdomen ultrasound. This may provide your sis with some answers. All the best and I hope this information assists your sis into a speedy recovery.

goto a doctor, it could be something serious

You better ask a doctor!!! Try taking a Tum..but call the doctor.

If it was appendicitus, she would have pain lower down I think, Hope she gets well soon!

Seek profesional help

Sounds like gallbladder to me, if so ,it is usually an attack and will subside by tomorrow but might get worse as time goes on and she has more and more attacks. See a Dr. good luck!!

1] appendicitis typically causes pain in the right lower quadrant [ quarter ] of the abdomen.
2] acid reflux occurs in the esophagus - the stomach is designed to withstand the acids in it.
3] also sounds too high up in abdomen to be constipation
4] does it radiate to her shoulder? Could be gallbladder, too.
5] has your sister done a lot of abdominal exercises recently? Can cause extreme tenderness.
6] eaten any new or highly spiced foods?
7] eaten waay too much?
8] eaten a lot of fatty food?
Could try some over the counter antacid - if no improvement after twenty minutes, or new or worse symptoms - see a doc.

Inflamed intestines? Or maybe a hairline fracture on one of her ribs? See a doctor and insist to have an x-ray done.
