Mono treatment?!

Question: I have mono....I have not been to a doctor but there is no doubt in my mind that it is mono...I feel incredibly tired (can sleep constantly), sore throat, a fever that comes and goes all by itself. As far as I've ever heard or read about, the treatment for mono is rest for at least a week and then to be careful of not overdoing anything physical for at least 6 months.

Is there any reason I need to go to a doctor? My health insurance only kicks in after I've spent $2400. The doctor's visit will include the cost of the office visit and additional lab costs for the blood work. This is a minimum of $250 out of pocket. I appreciate your input!

Infectious Mononucleosis is caused by Epstein Barr virus. It is a self limited virus. There is no treatment for ordinary mono. They will go away without treatment although they will persists in the patient for life. You don't need to go to the doctor. They will not offer you any treatment!!!

I am an infectious disease doctor.

I had mono when I was like 17 so I can't remember exactly, but you should see blisters in the back of your mouth/throat if its mono. And you're contagious for 2 weeks so you should be careful around people. And a doc could give you antibiotics but if you can tolerate it then I'm sure you could just ride it out.
