33 days with 100.5 fever, could this be a virus?!

Question: after 33 days of testing the doctors told me that I have FUO (fever of unknown origin) and said I most likely just have a virus that is lingering. I have seen my regular doctor and an infectious disease doc. In all the tests they have done they came up with the following: I tested positive for lyme disease but they said sense this is not the season for it that I dont have it and they cant see how I tested positive.(they will not follow up on this). CT scans revealed nodules on my thyroid and a lesion on my liver. They said neither of these would cause the fever, fatigue and weakness.(again they will not follow up on this). So bottom line should I take it as a virus? or get a second opinion?

What season you are in does NOT determine whether or not you have Lyme disease. Especially since you tested positive for it, that's too important a clue to ignore. I recommend you go to http://www.lymenet.com, click on "flash discussion" and then click on "medical questions." This will be a good forum for you to discuss your symptoms, learn about different testing options, and generally bring yourself up to speed on Lyme-related issues. It's also a place to get recommendations for Lyme-literate medical docs in your region.

If your WBC was lower than normal that means that your body is not fighting off anything which still leaves the fever as unknown. Although, the one thing that doesn't make sense is the Lyme testing. You can test positive at ANY TIME OF THE YEAR, you could have been infected 2 summers ago, it would be positive now, that would be causing your fatigue and weakness and possible the fever also. You definitely need a new doctor or to see a specialist regarding the Lyme, that can really mess you up if not followed and treated. You're obviously having symptoms, get copies of those labs and see someone else.

Seek a different doctor as soon as possible .
You no doubt need to find out whats wrong.
Your condition sounds serious....

Take care and good luck.

Please get a second opinion. Definately take copies of your CT Scan, and labwork. Find out about your liver lesion and thyroid nodules. You didn't say how low your WBC count is, but avoid anyone with colds. Make an appointment to see someone else, now. Have a follow up blood test called the Western Blot to confirm the first ELISA test re: Lyme Disease. If you are positive, you must get treated.
