Digestion, white stools?!

Question: my son is just over a year old and since december he has been having white stools, he has been refered to a specialist but would like to know more about this condition. all the doctor said is that he isn't digesting fat. we eat very healthy and if i give my son a biscuit for a treat his stools are white the next day and they are also very bulky. any clues to what is going on here would be great thankyou.

White stools are caused by a lack of bile (which is needed to digest fat). The question the docs need to answer is why there is no bile production. Bile is produced in the liver, and liver infections or other liver disorders could interrupt bile production. Sometimes, the digestive system in infants takes a few years to develop fully, and there is no actual problem.

The docs will probably follow-up with a blood test to look for signs of infection and indicators of function. Since the white stools are intermittent, it looks like the liver functions correctly some of the time, so its possible that the digestive system is still developing. Maybe all that's needed is to follow a low-fat diet until things improve.

i don't know but it's funny how you said 'if i give my son a biscuit for a treat ' as if he was a pet.

Why don't you just GOOGLE this crap (LoL)?

Usually the lighter the stool is the more dehydrated the person is. Is he constipated when he passes it? Found this website you may want to take a look at.
Hope this helps. xxx

The are some genetic disorders that prevent the proper metabolism of fats. Keep in mind that disease always sound very scary when you don't truly understand them. So keep a open mind.

Also, cross reference with Medical journals and your doctor.

You can have white stools when your gall bladder isn't working properly. It usually is in someone older of course, but this may be what your son has. The gall bladder secretes enzymes which help you digest fat so if it isn't working correctly, he will excrete fat on his stools thus making them white. Hope this is helpful.

Does he eat a lot of white foods - potatoes, cottage cheese, rice, etc.? That's what it sounds like to me.
