Unfortunately, glioblastoma is the highest grade among all primary brain tumors, and median survival from time of diagnosis is a little over a year. Of course, this means that some folks live much less, and some live much longer. GBM invariably progress, however, and from the sounds of it, he may be progressing further. Depending on his condition, there may be further chemotherapy that can help slow the growth of the tumor. If he isn't already, he should be managed by a neuro-oncology specialist who has extensive experience with treating this type of cancer.

hi
i am so sorry for what you and your husband are going through, i know its hard but you do need to tell the dr's to explain things to you more, i know from my experience with my father i had to chase the dr down the wards to ask him things as i wanted to know everything, i did keep asking all the time and eventually he was honest with me, i think its when you dont know what to expect thats worse.
could i ask what you mean by what signs to look for, for what exactly etc maybe if you explain a bit more what you have been told.

GBM - Glioblastoma?

I have meningiomas. Lots of them that are in dangerous places. I had surgery and radiation 14 years ago but they have come back.

I CAN'T SAY IT LOUD ENOUGH, BUT GET A SECOND OPINION. This is a mistake a lot of people make. Please, especially since the doctors aren't giving you much information, you need, no you deserve to get a second opinion.

I am not knowledgeable about Glios but I know they are not pretty and are considered the worst of all tumors to get.

Contact the ABTA (American Brain Tumor Association) for more information. Also, contact a Neurosurgeon (NS) who specializes in brain cancer treatment. Please do not seek out any NS. You don't want one who also operates on necks, backs, spines, etc. You need a specialist. Also, check with the clinic or hospital you decide to go with and find out if there are others in your position that you might be able to speak to.

Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland OH) (where I was treated)
Mayo Clinic
Massachussetts General
MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia

These are just some of the many good clinics and hospitals available.

Email me if you like and I'll give you an on-line resource to check and see what other places to check out.

Good Luck.
