Calling all pump users!?!

Question: I'm supposed to be getting the pump later this month and I have a few questions. What kind of pump do you have or reccommend? Any likes or dislikes? Pros and cons? I'm thinking of getting the Minimed Paradigm 722 but I'm not really sure about it..... any comments on it?

Thanks for the help

You're gonna love it and you'll pick up on it pretty quick. My Paradigm is purple and I use the quick-set infusion set. I hide my pump in my bra and sometimes the tubes tickle my chest and stomach but I have gotten used to it. You can do pretty much anything while on the pump....run, sleep, play....other than swimming with the pump. But you can easily "disconnect" it when you're in the water. I have felt much better being on the pump and you will too. It's easier than sticking yourself so many times a day.

Good luck!

I wanna get pump too.
so im just gunna sit back and look at the other answers!

First off ill give you a little warning! Being on the pump is a major pain in the butt until you learn how to use it and then learn how to accommodate the little device. After all of that the pump will be the best thing in the world to you!!!! You will seriously love it. You will have so much freedom with eating times, what you eat etc...it is the greatest...but a little rocky in the beginning. Personally i have a Paradigm 722, it has been a good pump for me....i have had other versions of the pump like the 511,512 etc but the 722 is the best thus far. Moreover, if you can afford the continuous blood sugar monitoring stuff that goes with that pump it would be exceptionally awesome. However, i cannot afford that but i have the capabilities which is cool.

If you are skinny, use the silhouette, medium sized use the quickset...i do not like the other one...btw, those are insertion sets that deliver the insulin...I also like the 42 or 43 inch length of tubing because its nice when getting dressed etc...you have a sort of freedom to move around and not have to hold on to the thing.
One more thing, the silhouette, do not use the inserter, it really sucks. I recommend doing it manually...However, the quick set has a cool inserter...but its a little scary at first.

I have been using a pump for the last 21/2 years and it was the best decision in nearly 25 years with the disease that I have ever made. My A1c was between 10 and 12 before the pump, and has been between 6.5 and 7.2 since...I use the Paradigm 715, which is just a step below your 722. It has worked very well for me. Pumping definitely beets having to stick yourself with multiple injections everyday.

Good Luck!

I've had mine for a few months now and I love it. It makes life easier and things are more convenient. The only con I can really think of is what do to with it when you sleep, but I simply hook it to my PJ bottoms. In the summer when it's hot, I will have to come up with a better plan! LOL I love my pump and can't imagine my life without it.

I am not, thank goodness, diabetic, so I know I am not your target audience. I just wanted to share one comment with you, which I have learned from having a dear friend who has been on a pump forever.

Tape your site carefully when you go to sleep at night, and tape somewhere down on the line, towards the middle, with plenty of line on each side. She's rolled in bed before and had the line get caught, and she's rolled right out of the needle. She's been saved by her dogs, who sleep up on the bed with her. She's gone into shock in her sleep more than once, and if it weren't for her dogs knowing something was wrong, and alerting her husband (who often falls asleep on the couch), she'd have died in her sleep. She and I have talked about it, and she always reminds me, "If you meet someone who has or is getting a pump, remind them about my problem so they don't get into trouble." So that's what I am doing--passing along a safety tip from a dear friend who wears one, so that you don't have to go through what she's been through.

Best of luck--the people I know who have gone to a pump have had a better, easier time controlling their diabetes. I hope it works that way for you, too.
