Are panics attacks just in our heads?!

Question: well, panic attacks can be just in your head. there have been many times in the shower where i will get this compleate debilitizing feeling of pure panic, i cant move barely breath and i imagine this black hand coming out of the drain and grabbing me. or other instances like that, where i know that i am safe, yet i am afraid. but then, there are the times when your mind is trying to tell you, you are in danger...like if you were in a dark alley at night in a bad part of town and you hear a gnshot, followed by a scream. generally though, there are triggers that cause this respone though. drains and large crowds of people i dont know are ones for me, and everyone is different. but check out yahoo health searching panic attack. you will probaly find better info there, than what i can give you.

no people just think that

anxiety is perceived threat or perceiving something as dangerous and so severe anxiety can cause panic attacks. Psychological --> physical, a person with severe anxiety will start to feel physical symptoms such as sweating, shortness of breath, stomach pains, etc. and then may get worse because these symptoms causes them to think that they may be experiencing something life-threatening which increases their anxiety. the more panic attacks occur, the more likely future attacks will occur
the anxiety that causes the attacks are in our heads and what we are thinking causes these attacks, however the attacks themselves are real. if only we can control our thinking to reduce the anxiety then no panic attack,

No, but they can start there by sudden, unprovoked, emotionally intense experiences of impending doom, fear of dying, "going crazy", or loosing control, marked by physical symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, trembling, nausea, or shortness of breath.

Panic attacks are usually triggered by something that upset or scared you when you were at a bad time in your life. There are like the residual smoke and smell left over after a fire. But the fire is gone. The smoke and the smell is very real, but the fire is gone. The only way to get rid of the smoke and the smell is to clear away the ashes and burnt remains go see a shrink and clean it up. If the shrink doesn't help, go see another shrink because there are many out there and just like fabric softener, some are really great and some are just fluff.

There is no reason to keep having panick attacks unless you want to keep having them. Let go of what is setting them off and get over the fire and get on with your life and above all else see a doctor.
