How can I not catch a cold from someone in the flat above me?!

Question: I heard her coughing as she went in the front door, we share a front door and a little hall. My room is right at the front, can germs come through my window? Say she gets germs on her hands, touches her keys (the bit that goes in the lock), then I put my key in the lock, touch it, and then touch my mouth, can I get sick from that?
What about from breathing in the air from the hall?
Anything else I need to be careful of?
Sorry I'm scared of germs.

Absolutely, you can catch her cold. Cold germs can live on objects she's touched for day's as well as being airborne. Washing your hands often especially when coming in contact with things she's touched will help keep you healthy. Good luck!!

Yes it is extremely possible to get a cold because of these factors.
Practice handwashing and do not eat anything / touch your mouth after you have touched anything she MAY have touched.

Gekko

Absolutely wash your hands often, especially after touching anything she has touched. Make sure you keep up with your vitamins. Whenever you do have to use the lock or knob try using a kleenex tissue to open and shut.

don't touch your nose mouth or eyes with your hands. wash your hands
